What Is Love (2010) album review

NeverShoutNever! is one of those rare artists, that has cross genre appeal. I know metal heads, hippies, emos, and country fans who love NSN. Why does he have such appeal, to be honest I have to say its because he is an ingenious song writer, with catchy hooks, and an original sound. I haven't been a fan of all the music he releases, but some of its good some of its horrible. With NeverShoutNever!'s first full length release I was excited, but maybe unrightfully so.
The writing on this CD is good, NSN is known for amazing lyrics, and a catchy hooks, and this album provides it. One of my favorite songs on What is Love? is Can't Stand it, one of the most addicting songs ever, with a great hook. The only song I didnt really care for is Sacreligious, I read the lyrics to the song, thought they were a great analisis of Christian faith vs belief, but translated into a song, not so good. I think it would of done better as spoken word.

The melodies are amazing original, and anti corporate. I wish more artists would come up with original sounding music, like this. THIS IS GOOD no GREAT MUSIC, I'd put it up there with the great albums of all time, if it wasn't for one thing.

The CD is 20 minutes long, this should of been an EP not a full album release. I think What Is Love? is so short its not worth the money to buy it. A studio album should be 30 minutes or more to be a full release, I know I bashed Weezer's Raditude's short length but, this is ridiculous. It seems warner wanted to push out this CD before all the songs were written. With the cost of 14 bucks for this, I don't think its worth it. there is not enough content, despite this being an amazing album for it to cost the full amount.

All together this is a great EP, but not a full length studio album, all of the great music does not make up for the very little content you get. I'll leave you guys with the video for the first and self titled single "What is Love?"

Should the Internet be a Free Resource in the USA?

THE PROBLEM

As we all know internet service can be...EXPENSIVE. You have to spend around 15 bucks for the lowest end dial up in the US and that's the cheapest, for average service its anywhere from 30 to 60 dollars, and for the highest service it can be around 50 dollars up. In a down economy many people are giving up internet service, but should they?

The internet has become a major part of life, for almost everyone. Mainly because EVERYTHING requires the internet. Whether its school, work, or for human interaction you need an internet connection now a days.

Well with the high cost in a bad economy and a definite necessity, a solution comes to mind, why not make internet access free?

THE SOLUTION

Canada has done it, many EU countries have done it, and it has worked, I am of course talking about some form of free internet access. Now I know what the retards are saying, *country accent* "ITS NOT DUH GOMMERMANTS JOB TO PROVIDATIZE FREE INTERMAWEBS" *end country accent* to which I reply "Yes, of course it is the government should provide means of communication and full use of their websites to everyone, despite economic class or area of availability"

Though I am not saying offer free broadband 10 meg connections, I am simply saying offer 500k (slower then most ISP's offer) Wifi free available to everyone all over the United States.

Another question is: How will we pay for this? Simple the US has large amounts of Stimulus money going into made up government positions to create useless jobs, well why not spend that money on useful jobs. We can spend stimulus money on free internet.

I know what else people are thinking: Wouldn't this nationalize the internet? No not at all. A 500k connection is to be honest, really slow, faster then dial up but still slow. Most internet service providers offer their lowest package as 1 meg, twice that speed. Also many area's don't have any offerings except expensive dial up, which is slow groggy and out of date. Also you get what you do(n't) pay for. So if you want a fast connection pay for it.

On a side note I really fucking hate those weasels at the Dial Up companies, charging old ladies 50 dollars a month for a 52k connection....sickening.

That is all I have to say on this subject for now, though I may talk more on the subject later.

Esser-Braveface Album Review

The first time I heard a song from this album it was in December of 09, and Glenn Case had posted a link to the song "I Love You" which he claimed had one of the most infectious hooks ever, and oh boy he was right. After humming the song for a week I decided to learn more about Esser, so I looked on wikipedia and saw that they had release their first album. So after a week of searching for Braveface with no avail, I finally decided to visit a mom and pop record store in Reno, and was able to obtain a copy of this very interesting CD.
The song writing on Braveface is reminiscent of Cake, with strong repeating versus and even stronger spoken word. The thick British accent adds a bit of charm to the mix. Writing and vocal performance is amazing. The best examples of this driving vocal performance are the songs I Love You, Headlock, and Work it Out.

The music itself, is the best of 90's Syntha pop/rock, that came out in 90's in the UK.
The great repeating beats, bad ass protools FX, amazing drum tracks, and keyboard artistry. This is one of the only bands in YEARS I have seen do this right.

Altogether I have to say Esser is an amazing band, and Braveface is an Amazing record while it might not be to everyone's taste, in my opinion it is one of the best albums of last year.

I will now leave you with the video for "I Love You"

Cage the Elephant Album Review

Its very Rarely a debut album can move me so much that I become a hardcore fan of a band but 2008's Cage The Elephants Self Titled did it, I have had this CD on continuous loop for well over a month now, and still cant get enough.

The writing on this album is excellent, so excellent I am going out on a limb and saying its remminisent of the Pixies, strong song writing, with complex and subtle meanings through out. One song with such a great example of this is the song In One Ear, which is my second favorite song on the album only behind Back Against the Wall, but overall there is no poorly written song on this CD. I really have to give the band credit on this one, for a first effort this is just, astounding.

As for the music on this album, I have to say its great alt rock at its best. Barrage of grunge and bluesy guitar riffs with good druming and composed very well. The songs Judas and Aint no Rest for the Wicked are just amazing blends of instruments, and vocals that leave you in an awe worthy mood. The only criticism I have of this entire record is that three songs sound similar, and not enough to make a big complaint about.

Overall this is one hell of a god damn bad ass mother fucking WIN album, I will leave you with the most famous single from the Album Aint no Rest for the Wicked
