Revolution of the Mask Issue #1 Text Review

After a near 6 month hiatus from me doing text reviews of comic books I decided I would review a comic book reviewers comic book. The Revolution of the Mask art by Leonardo Freites and story by Lewis "Linkara" Lovhaug.

To start off lets talk about the artwork. The style is black and white which if done right can be gritty or beautiful, in this case its done okay my biggest issue with the black and white is the shading something that is a slight problem in this book. The textures just don't show up as good as they should which can be a real down point. What I do like is the character design, a mix between silver age comics and manga . The mix between what is known as an anime template and the classic DC style really adds some interesting eye candy .

The Story is an interesting thing to talk about. It is a good story but seems so brief even for only one issue of twelve. The Story is great for how little is really exposed, which is a good thing. There is a slight homage to V for Vendetta, and the waking up to a world that has always been around you that you never noticed does seem a little like Wanted. The story is good id even say great, but it didnt do the little extra to make it amazing.

To summarize, the first issue would be good for a vet in the industry, but it came from two people who have never published a book professionally before. The fact that the first issue was this good gives me high expectations for what is to come. While I do think the illustration needs work and the story isn't word heavy enough I would have to give this book a solid 85% for the first issue. Well worth the digital download price.
